Reduce Harmful Ground Level Ozone with New Catalyst Coating

Industrialization has led to the increase of pollutants in the air we breathe, especially in big cities. And the effects are not to be taken lightly. In fact, 7 million premature deaths were linked to air pollution in 2012, according to the World Health Organization.

Ground level ozone, a leading contributor to smog, a certain type of pollutant, can lead to serious environmental and health problems.

This is why government regulators are tightening emission standards to reduce these risks in the future. Some of the standards include Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) III, Tier 3 and pending Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) regulations.

As ambient air passes through the PremAir NXT-coated radiator surface, the ozone makes contact with the coating and is eliminated, producing harmless oxygen in the process.

This technology builds on BASF's more than 10 years of experience with its proprietary PremAir coating technology, which has been used in more than 3 million vehicles. But with enhancements to the technology, it now provides increased durability and higher ozone conversion performance over the lifetime of a vehicle.
