Weekly Bath Checks Keep OEMs Cleaned Up

Our CathoGuard e-coating technology helps OEMs cover all the nooks and crannies of the metal body before priming and painting it.

"We are here to help automakers," says Kevin Schock, senior development specialist for the Coatings department.  "Each week, OEMs send a one gallon sample from their CathoGuard® bath and we check for solids, PH, conductivity and pigment to binder. We also have a dedicated on-site representative at each of our OEMs."

Our CathoGuard e-coating technology helps OEMs cover all the nooks and crannies of the metal body before priming and painting it. This team of chemists has individuals on-site at many facilities and run weekly tests to make sure the quality of the e-coating bath is up to par.

Aside from the pre-treatment phase, we provide all products necessary to take a car from a hunk of metal to a shiny, new toy that will quickly catch consumer attention.

The coatings team understands the challenges OEMs face and they work to find solutions and provide excellent customer service along the way.  Some examples of their work include:

  • Being Pioneers of the Integrated Process enabling OEMs to remove "a bake" from the conventional painting process because of BASF products
  • Executing the Annual Color Program, where colors are engineered to fit the specs and needs for  future OEM color plans
  • Maintaining all products on the market and providing support for standard colors such as black, white and silver throughout a lifecycle
